Hello everyone. My name is Bin. I am eight years old. I am from Nha Trang. Today, I will talk about Electricity.
As you know, electricity is all around us. The powering technology includes cell phones, computers, lights, and air conditioners. It’s hard to escape it in our modern world. Even when you try to escape electricity, it’s still at work throughout nature, like lightning in a thunderstorm. But what exactly is electricity?

- What is electricity? And what types of electricity?
Electricity is a form of energy that comes from the flow of electrical power. It allows things to move and work. Electricity is used to power our homes, lights, and electronics. We get electricity from coal, energy, natural gas, and oil sources.
We can divide the electricity into 3 types. The first type is man-made, such as hydroelectric power plants, windmills, coal plants, and so on. People build dams, windmill machines, coal power plants to make electricity for our houses. The second type can be found in nature, such as lightning on rainy days or in Northern lights in Canada or North America. The third is found in our bodies or in some kind of fish.
- Types of electrical and non-electrical device
Do you see, electricity is all around us, and most of the appliances in our house, from small devices like stoves, fans, kettles, etc. to big devices like fridges, air conditioners, and electric cars use electricity to work. But when the electricity is cut off, it is really convenient to have gas stoves to cook, hand fans, or bicycles to ride.
- How do we make electricity?
Even though electricity is still important nowadays. How can we make electricity? Humans used natural elements to make energy thousands of years ago to perform work. The Greeks used water wheels for grinding wheat into flour more than 2,000 years ago, while the Egyptians used Archimedes water screws for crop irrigation during the third century B.C. Today many power stations are built using water from waterfalls. When water falls over a waterfall, down the current of a river, or through a dam, it can be collected in something called a turbine. These turbines have big blades, and when they spin, they make power that we can turn into electricity. Some places use other elements such as wind, coal, solar panels to make electricity.
- Advantages and disadvantages of electricity
Most of our household equipment is powered by electricity, which has numerous advantages in our daily lives. Brightness at night is only possible by the use of electricity. When I visit my grandparents, I’m afraid of going to the bathroom outside or walking around the neighborhood because of the darkness. We can also use electricity to run our devices and gadgets such as TV, computer, cell phones, electric fan, and air conditioner, and cook food quickly using electric ovens and grills. So we can relax and do less work because machines like robots do everything for us.
Although electricity is really useful, it causes people to become lazy and rely on gadgets such as machines, computers, and calculators. Instead of washing clothes by hand, my mom just puts them into the washing machine, or most of my friends and I use calculators to do Math instead of thinking and doing it ourselves. Besides, if we are not careful when using these machines, their powerful power can kill us. Sometimes it can burn our house due to faulty wiring.
